Strawberries… like apples

Marshal. This is a mid-early variety of American selection. The berries are tasty, oblong, do not lie on the ground, the largest specimens reach 110 g. The bushes are beautiful, powerful, produce many runners with rosettes. Large leaves reliably protect the berries from birds. The advantage of this variety is drought resistance. In addition, it is resistant to frost, diseases and pests, fruitful. The berries are well transported.

Gigantella Maxim. Perhaps the largest mid-late Dutch variety. The weight of the fruits can reach more than 100 g, with the main harvest being 40-60 g. There are no small ones. Very sweet, taste like pineapple. When ripening, they begin to turn red from the inside, do not touch the ground. The berries cannot be confused with any others in appearance. They have large protruding seeds. They are well transported. The bushes are powerful, the leaves are large, 30 cm wide, the whiskers and peduncles are thick. Unlike Marshall, this variety loves water very much. If other varieties need to be transplanted to another place every few years, then Gigantella Maxim is perennial. It reproduces well.

Cardinal. A very transportable variety. The berries can reach 80 g, sweet, with dense pulp, beautiful, shiny, cherry-colored, with golden seeds, and are stored well. The peculiarity of this variety is that they are crispy, like apples. When falling, they are practically not damaged. The variety can yield crops twice a year – in June and early autumn. The bushes are large, but not dense, the leaves are also large, glossy, folded like a boat. Young rosettes take a long time to root, and for better root formation, their inflorescences are removed. Rosettes that have bloomed and borne fruit are no longer suitable for rooting.

The fruits are large, some up to 100 g, but the average weight is 25-40 g, with dense juicy sweet and sour pulp. Universal use: do not boil over, suitable for freezing.

This variety is especially popular now. Chamora Turusi.

But whatever variety you choose, remember that high yields and large berries can only be achieved with constant care of the plantings. Berries weighing up to 100 g are single even in large-fruited varieties, so you should not expect the entire harvest to be gigantic, since there is such a thing as average weight.

In addition, you should not rely only on large-fruited varieties. Usually, medium-fruited varieties are grown along with them, since the latter are not only not inferior in yield, but often surpass them.
