Begonias are moderately capricious plants, and with reasonable care they will delight you with lush flowering or brightly colored leaves for a long time. When choosing a begonia, you need to know: what kind you are choosing and what to expect from it in the future.

Blooming begonias

When choosing a blooming begonia, you can’t go wrong! It’s hard to imagine more luxurious flowers. When buying, be sure to consult with the seller and find out whether the plant is evergreen or tuberous. Tuberous varieties of begonias shed their leaves for the winter and bloom only in summer and autumn. After autumn flowering, they are usually thrown away.

Evergreen beauties delight with their blooming all year round. The flower loves moderation in everything. It should not be too shaded or too brightly lit. It should also not be watered too much or kept in drought.

Rules for caring for flowering begonia:

  • there should be fresh air in the room, but no drafts;
  • regularly spray the air around the plant (moisture should not get on the leaves);
  • keep the soil constantly moist without overwatering;
  • in spring the flower needs to be cut short;
  • turn the pot regularly;
  • Do not place flowers too close to each other.

Begonias with decorative leaves

The leaves of these plants resemble butterflies and are perhaps no less attractive than the flowers. There are many different types of decorative leaf begonias, with small and huge leaves. Under good conditions, they grow into beautiful bushes that look like bouquets. This type of begonia requires slightly different care.

Rules for caring for decorative leaf begonia:

  • unlike flowering plants, they do not like abundant watering and waterlogged soil;
  • Instead of spraying, you need to regularly remove wilted leaves;
  • It is better to water with soft water rather than hard water. To do this, you can let the water stand for half a day to let the chlorine evaporate, or boil it;
  • In winter it is better to keep the temperature conditions within 18 degrees.
